Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
by Ellie O., Marysville, CA

Ouch! “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” is like a stab in the back. At first the viewer is shocked and hurt, then disgusted, and finally just mad. The third Harry Potter movie is an abomination.
This film is supposed to be about Harry Potter at wizard school. He believes he is being pursued by the madman who helped kill his parents but we find out that the madman is really a good guy and chasing after the man who actually betrayed Harry’s parents.

This is about as far as the script goes. We don’t fully understand why the betrayal of Harry’s parents was so bad or any of the things Harry learns about his father, leaving out the parts that were so good in the book.

Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Rupert Grint (Ron), and Emma Watson (Hermione) star. They act well with the script they have and are not to blame for my opinion of the film as a whole. The sets are quite good, but I would have liked less computer animation and more puppet effects and stunt doubles.

I don’t like the director’s choice of costumes, either. Instead of wearing their school robes, students wear jeans and t-shirts. This upsets me because a characteristic of almost all wizards is that they don’t like muggles’ (non-magic people’s) clothes, and it breaks with the established costumes of the previous movies. Why change?

The only excellent aspect of this movie is the music. John Williams is a brilliant composer whose credits include the “Star Wars” films, “Jaws” and “Jurassic Park.” The music, though, cannot be credited to director Alfonso Cuar—n because Williams wrote it for directors of the other Harry Potter movies.

The script is poorly written, and the scenes don’t flow. In the book Harry receives his new broomstick in the middle of the tale, while here it seems as if someone realized at the last minute they need the broomstick for the next movie, so they stick it in at the end. The whole movie seems choppy. I don’t see how someone who hasn’t read the books would understand what is happening since many parts that explained the story have been cut.

It is always difficult to make a good movie based on a great book. I thought it wasn’t possible with the Harry Potter series, since the first two movies were nothing special. I was proven wrong when I saw the fourth movie. This leaves no excuse for the third one to be this bad. If you are thinking about buying this film, buy the book instead.

Although other people have said how they 'hope' that Harry doesn't die, either way I think we know that Voldemort will die in the end, which is the point of 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' and 'The Half Blood Prince.' Harry still might die at the end of the book. I think that J.K. Rowling has it in for him, so I don't think the next book will actually be finished until late August, considering Harry needs to find four (it might have been five) more horcruxes. I think many people including me, will be happier once the last book is out. Then the entire series will tie together and make a little bit more sense. I think this book should end ... like a war story. Yeah, Harry will kill Voldemort, but as J.K. Rowling has already said, two important characters will be killed as well. As an end thought, I also think that Harry will somehow mess up the Ministry of Magic because he isn't on good terms with Umbridge and the minister. Plus, when, if, he kills the dark lord, not many people will believe him."

Harry will liveI don't think Harry will die, because if he does, that wouldn't make any sense. See if somebody else tried to do another book of that kind could do it by simply creating another wizard who will destroy Voldemort, evil, but if Harry kills Voldemort, there is no point on creating anything else in that matter. So, I hope that J.K. Rowling does not kill Harry.

The answer is in the mirror
As wonderful as it would be for the series to end with Harry happy and possibly starting a family with his love Ginny, I believe Harry will perish at the end of the series. After Bill and Fleur's wedding, Harry, Ron & Hermione, et al, will be off and running to find and destroy the remaining horcruxes (with Snape's help?), then face down the death-eaters to get to Voldemort. He will sacrifice himself and someone in the Order of the Phoenix will finish off Voldemort.

Snape is good
Snape is a good guy. He knew he was going to be the one who would kill Dumbledore at the beginning of HBP and that Draco would not be able to carry it out. Halfway through the year, Snape wasn't sure if he could go through with this, but Dumbledore encouraged him to. In the end, Dumbledore had clear control of the situation and Snape did exactly as he was asked to do.

Dumbledore's pet was a phoenix and for good reason. Just as Fawkes demonstrated his devotion to Dumbledore in the fight at the ministry by taking the death curse instead of letting it hit Dumbledore, Dumbledore took the death curse in front of Harry to demonstrate there are greater powers and greater good beyond mortal life. It is significant that the death chamber in the Ministry of Magic had voices beyond the curtain, which Luna and Harry could hear. It is also significant that there was a door, which Harry could not open, and which he later found out contains a great power behind it, love.

We are going to learn that Snape had a soft spot for Lily Evans, and possibly a teenage crush on her. It is Snape's love for Lily that Dumbledore was using as a weapon against Voldemort. Lily, herself, "was an uncommonly kind witch, able to see the good in others especially when they couldn't see it in themselves." Lily understood the power of love, which is how she used it to protect Harry when he was one year old. One of the people who Lily must have used this power on at one time was Snape, who was in desperate need of it, which is why Dumbledore can trust him to help bring down Voldemort.

The significance of Bill and Fleur's wedding must be that Dumbledore plans to be "reborn from the ashes" as a child from their marriage. It may be that in the end, Harry or Hermione will make the same sacrifice to protect the baby using the same spell Lily used. This will justify the death of a main character and give continuity to the whole story line.

Ron and Hermione may fall in love with each other, but it won't be much more than a kissing scene. They are too young to be developed as having a steamy relationship, or having children before one of them gets killed.

Since the prophecy clearly states that either Harry or Voldemort cannot live while the other survives, that pretty much eliminates Harry as dying in the books since we cannot expect Voldemort to survive. The whole plot of the story is about destroying Voldemort, and thus eliminating extreme evil. It may be that Bill gets killed and Harry takes Fleur's child and her for his own, in the end.

There are only a handful of "major characters" that it would matter if they died. McGonagall will not die as there is no heir apparent being developed to be the headmaster after she is gone. It would be pointless to kill Trelawney. It would be too heavy if two of the three main characters died, so Ron will survive. If another character other than Hermione dies, it will likely be Hagrid, Snape, Luna, or Neville. Hagrid doesn't have the relevance needed to kill off. Luna and Neville seem like a good romance story in the end. They are both weaklings and underdogs who will rise to the status of hero. I suspect the other character who will die is Snape, but not until after Harry learns how much Snape loved his mother and had been protecting him all these years.

So there you have it. Snape and Hermione are the most likely to die in the last book.

Dumbledore will return
OK so I have a couple theories on what might happen...
First of all, I think Dumbledore is going to come back near the end of the book and suprise Harry. I think that his death was staged so that Harry thought he was dead. Because Harry thinks Dumbledore is dead Voldemort thinks hes dead as well (through their mental connection, occlumency, etc.).

I'm also waiting for Snape to save the day and come help Harry.I think that Voldemort will die in the end, as well as Harry... because he is a horcrux (I think). If Harry doesn't die (which I don't want him to) someone like Ron, or Dumbledore, or hopefully Hermione (I've never liked her) will have to sacrifice themselves. I don't think we know enough about the horcruxi to predict the true ending. Either way, Voldemort is going to die. I'm hoping he dies in a very painful way but J.K. Rowling is too nice to the bad guys and he will probably die a fast (yet dramatic) death after a long battle with Harry.

Voldemort is defeated
I don't think Harry will die, because if he does, that wouldn't make any sense, see if somebody else tried to do another book of that kind could do it by simply creating another wizard who will destroy Voldemort, evil, but if Harry kills Voldemort there is no point on creating anything else in that matter.

So I hope that J.K. Rowling does not kill Harry.

Ginny sacrifices herself
I think that the only way for Harry to be able to defeat Voldemort, would be with a selfless act of both love and courage.

At the end of book 6 Ginny and Harry break up because Harry is trying to protect Ginny. In the end, I believe Ginny will sacrifice herself in some way during the final battle in order to protect Harry. Maybe by jumping in front of Harry during the Avada Kedavra curse, just as Harrys' mom did. I think Harry has never really been angry enough to kill until something like this happens.

Harry lost his parents when he was a baby, but because they never raised him even though his wish was always that he would have liked to have been raised and known them I don't believe the rage was close enough for him to really want to kill someone.I think Ginny dying will be the final straw.
I think Voldemort was always supposed to die ,so I don't think J.K. Rowling counted him in the two deaths she said were going to be main characters. Also remember that the movies made Harry, Ron and Hermione main characters and not J. K. Rowling.
I believe the Second death will be Malfoy because he failed Voldemort. He did not complete his assigned task and Voldemort does not suffer fools gladly. In the end Malfoy froze and his loyalty was unknown, so he will die.
It would be cool if this ends with the possibility that Voldemort might not be completely dead, leaving Rowling a chance to change her mind in 10 years and write another one, but I think he dies.I hope this final book at least has an epilogue, so that if she doesn't leave it open we know what happened 5 or 10 years later!!
